Gingerbread House Making Competition!

As our last social event of the quarter, the Gingerbread House Making Competition was definitely a fun-filled event to remember. On Thursday, November 18th, SWE-UCLA members and friends were invited to participate in a competition that required not only engineering skills, but also our sweet teeth.
All building supplies and accessories were provided by SWE-UCLA for our very own architects, contractors and designers. Participants were given a little less than one hour to make their holiday creations. Hot chocolate was distributed to those in need of a warm and sweet sugar boost, although many of us chose to stick with licking the frosting off our fingers. As foundations were built and walls were put up, each participant's individual styles began to emerge – a balcony here, a front lawn there. When it came time to judge the gingerbread houses, there was a scurry for last minute additions and finishing touches.
Bill Goodin and Andrea Kasko, SWE-UCLA advisors, judged each person's houses fairly and carefully. After making their many rounds of observations and even witnessing the accidental destruction of one house, decisions were made and four winning houses were announced.
The popular event definitely set the mood for the upcoming holidays. All participants left for the night satisfied and a little bit sugar high. As always, the competition was a success. To all SWE-UCLA members, friends and family: Happy holidays and have a fantastic winter break!
