SWE Open House

6:00PM on Thursday September 30th saw the ESUC lounge crowded with over 100 guests for SWE’s ‘10/’11 Open House. We kicked off with an icebreaker where everyone got the chance to learn more about their neighbors while munching their way through Subway sandwiches and drinks. A great prize awaited those who had the courage to then introduce their neighbors – a SWE t-shirt!
SWE-UCLA President, Carolyn Chuang, then formally introduced the executive board for this coming year and encouraged all new faces to approach these officers with any questions they may have after the presentations. Various events held by SWE – such as EWI, Social Events, Mentorship Events, and Outreach events – were then showcased via a slideshow. This was followed by signups for mentorship, outreach, and team tech. The response was far beyond what we expected! The committee sign-ups for Social Chair and EWI Co-Chairs were just as well-received. Following that, questions relating to the slideshow were posed to the floor, with cool little prizes for those who managed to answer. After the event, non-members were able to join SWE by registering online using prepared laptops outside the ESUC lounge. Overall, the event was a great success, with many newcomers and freshmen excited to be signing up for the various activities that SWE has to offer. Hopefully we’ll be seeing familiar faces in upcoming events!
