Over fifty guests filled the Red Baron room at the Proud Bird Restaurant near Los Angeles International Airport on May 22, 2010 to celebrate the achievements of SWE-UCLA’s executive board and advisors this past year, introduce the newcomers for next year, and honor three recipients of this year’s SWE-UCLA Lockheed Martin Scholarship awards – Tiffany Choy, Anna Kin, and Linda Wong. This year’s end of the year banquet was themed a “Black and White Affair,” and most guests arrived clad in their best black and white cocktail attire and ready to have a good time. Those in attendance included the SWE-UCLA incoming and outgoing executive board members, SWE-UCLA counselor Bill Goodin, SWE-UCLA Adviser Andrea Kasko, and representatives from Lockheed Martin, Johanna and Jessica Murabaki. The evening began with h’orderves, followed by a delicious three-course dinner. Students, faculty, and honored guests were able to mingle and chat throughout dinner. Afterwards, the ceremonial portion of the evening began, with a speech by SWE-UCLA President Tiffany Tsao. Tiffany summarized the many achievements SWE has accomplished this year, including hosting a successful Evening with Industry which drew in over 300 attendees and multiple social, outreach, and Team Tech efforts. She continued on to thank the outgoing executive board, major chairs, and committee members for their contributions to the organization and then introduced the incoming board, wishing them the best of luck. Finally, Tiffany announced the winners of this year’s SWE-UCLA scholarships generously donated by Platinum sponsors Lockheed Martin Corporation. These recipients were chosen based on their academic success and involvement in SWE. The recipients – Tiffany Choy, Anna Kin, and Linda Wong – were all past active members of SWE-UCLA who embody the spirit of SWE. The evening closed by opening up the dance floor to all those who cared to join in on the fun. Overall, the evening was a huge success and a night to remember for all!
