Calling All Incoming Freshmen

Every year in spring, HSSEAS hosts Engineering Freshmen Open House which aims to attract and capture the attention of prospective UCLA Engineering students. Thousands of admitted high school seniors and their families attended the event held at the Royce Hall Auditorium on Sunday morning, April 11th. The event started with the welcoming speech by Dean Dhir, and it was followed by the departmental speeches given by the dean of each engineering department. SWE UCLA alumni, Jacq Leong, spoke of her experience here at UCLA and SWE’s role in making her UCLA experience so memorable. Our SWE Internal Vice President, Tina Zhou also gave a speech on different engineering student groups on campus, including SWE and ESUC.

Numerous SWE members participated as volunteers for the Open House. We started the morning by distributing informational packets to the arriving students and families. After the general session, each prospective student was lead to their departmental meeting base for their major. After the department meetings, students had the option of attending housing tours and campus tours.

Every year, Engineering Open House serves to introduce students to the inspiring environment of being a Bruin engineer and the exciting four years to come. SWE’s involvement every year allows us to introduce our organization to prospective students, giving us the leverage to build our membership as we start the next school year.
