HP Infosession

On January 27th, one day after our biggest event of the year EWI 2010, we hosted an Hewlett Packard Infsession. UCLA alum Kristine, an R&D Software Engineer and Ken, the University Recruiting Program Manager, gave a presentation on "How to get a job in this economy – How to make yourself standout." Kristine gave some insights, some of which included Google-ing your name, a list of notable job search websites, and other routes of getting into the company other than applying to full time. She stressed how important it is to perfect the resume because that is what will land you the first interview. Kristine also gave tips on how to interview. A lot of times, students stress over the technical aspect of the interview, but in fact, most companies look for a prospect with a personality. It is way more important to be honest and passionate about the job than it is to be entirely technology savvy. Other than the helpful tips from Kristine, Ken also announced some of the open positions at HP and the background of the company. One of the highlights of the night was the mysterious grab bag that only students who answered questions correctly got the chance to pick an item out of!

To learn more about the company and the presentation, check out the minutes that will soon be posted on the SWE Website!
