It's our first week back from a much-needed Winter break, and on Thursday, January 7th, SWE had Kerry Walters from Kaplan Test Prep give a presentation on preparing for the GRE and graduate school. Kerry's amazing powerpoint not only informed the crowd about the GRE, but it also contained a lot of useful information about the graduate school application process. She emphasized things like planning out a schedule, choosing recommendations from people who know you well (and not just for their titles), having your essays read and reread by countless peers, and really highlighting your accomplishments on your resume.
Once Kerry got on the topic of the GRE, she gave some statistics about average scores on the GRE for various majors. She also talked about the format, and most importantly, she mentioned that the GRE will change dramatically in 2011! The new GRE will have double the reading comprehension, so if reading comprehension is not one of your strong points, be sure to take the GRE soon!
